"When I began the fellowship program at Westminster, I didn’t know how much I did not know. I was paired with a master teacher in the subject area of my interest. I learned everything from curriculum development to student assessment to teaching philosophies and everything in between. After completing my fellowship year, I felt confident I had the tools needed to begin my teaching career. Westminster’s fellowship program was the answer I didn’t know I needed!"

-Colin McEwen, Eighth-grade science teacher

Fellowship

Overview for 2024-2025
Westminster School believes that a quality education begins with talented, compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional teachers. The Westminster School Fellowship Program was created in 2016 to develop such teachers by immersing fellows in the life of Westminster School. The program provides opportunities for individuals who are interested in becoming teachers, especially for middle school and upper elementary subject areas. Each fellow works directly with a lead teacher to provide instruction to students, and for those fellows with broader interests in the arts and athletics, there will be opportunities to direct and to coach in the school’s extracurricular and elective programs.

Time
The fellows work a regular teacher's schedule, 7:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Benefits
Fellows work at least 40 hours/week and earn $25/hour, and receive full benefits.

Who Should Apply
To be eligible for the program, candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree, have experience working with children, and be interested in a career in teaching. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Program Success
We have had thirteen fellows finish the program over the last eight years. Ten were hired full-time after completing their fellowship, and six of those are still teaching at Westminster School.

Contact Information
To apply for a fellowship, candidates should send a cover letter explaining their interest to Bob Vernon, 600 NW 44, OKC 73118 or bvernon@westminsterschool.org.
